Ape King slot is a July 2020 release from RTG which sees the Ape as the King of the Jungle. The free spins round will see numerous monkey themed characters doing battle in the forest canopy for domination of the jungle whilst, hopefully, racking up a streak of wins for players. How does this slot fare overall though? Read on for the full Ape King slot review and see what we made of the features, graphics and bonuses.

Summary
Ape King is lacking in base game modifiers and the Wild symbols only sub for the Ape King himself until you get to the free spins round. The free spins bonus in itself with the lack of a predetermined number of spins can be quite exciting to watch play out but given that it is a high volatility slot would would have liked to have seen a higher max win. Overall, there are better RTG slots out there and this one certainly isn’t among our favourites.

- Interesting Free Spins Battle Bonus Feature
Cons
- Low Max Win For a High Volatility Slot
- Lacking in Bonus Features

Stats and Volatility
The RTP of Ape King slot has not been released at present, which is often the case with RTG casinos slots, we would estimate it to be around the 96% mark though.
The maximum win possible is 1,666x your stake, or $250,000 on the top level. Bets range from 30 cents up to $150 if you’re playing at a USA online casino, or just transfer that into pounds, euros or whichever currency you’e playing with.
The action takes place on 5 reels with 3 rows each.
The volatility is marked as being high, so you’re likely to see quite a few dead spin spin patches but the payouts when you do land them should come in at a decent amount.
Symbols, Sound and Graphics
Ape King slot has a jungle sound that fits the game fine, the sound effects are everything you would expect to hear in a cartoon type jungle and help add a little something extra to the game. Bongo drums play whilst birds sing and when you land a win the monkeys sound off.
The slot is set on a jungle background which looks a bit bleak to be fair, it’s definitely not the happy go lucky type of atmosphere which many other ape themed slots have attempted.
The lower paying symbols are playing cars from 9 to Ace. Premium symbols go from the top being the Ape King, then through a series of monkeys including a chimp, an orangutang, a monkey, and a Mandrill which is the lowest paying of the premiums.
The Wild and the Scatter symbol are both the same symbols. This is a pot filled with gold. They can land on reels 2, 3 and 4. They are stacked.
Bonus Features
In terms of base game modifiers, Ape King slot is severely lacking. The Wild symbol will only substitute for the Ape King symbol, which is very disappointing.
The Free Spins feature is awarded if you land 4 or more Scatters. This triggers the bonus with the free spins not having a predetermined amount. Here the Wild will substitute for all symbols.
They will simply keep going until the “battle” is either won or lost. So, how does this feature/battle work? At the start of the free spins round you’ll see the Ape King and one of each of the other monkey symbols sitting at the top of the reels to the right hand side.
Each time any monkey symbol land it will be added to the top but if an Ape King symbol lands he will eat the symbols of the same kind to the left of him which, depending on the amount of the same symbol, will give you a win of various sizes.
The free spins round keeps going until either the Ape King eats up all the other monkey symbols and wins the battle, or until enough of the other monkey symbols appear to knock the ape King off the top left hand corner of the slot reels.
If it sounds complicated it isn’t really, you might just need to try out some free spins to see for yourself how it works.
